The Future Ghosts

These rooms are more than stone.
The shadows of past victories,
Tragedies,
Dreams fulfilled and broken,
Breathe through walls and air.
A wiser smile shines down
From the long yellow tusks of light
Anchored to the ceiling long ago,
Eliciting new smiles from fresher faces.
We have stomped through these halls until
Our footprints turned to ghosts.
Not one will disappear.
They cheer the day-walkers on to fight
One more day in monotony
Until they, too, are an eternal imprint.
Even now the future ghosts
Plod through rooms of more than stone.
On my last day of High School I feel the faces of the Alumni pressed against our desks with us. I've seen glimpses of my cousins who attended this school long ago in the halls throughout all four of my years here, and I know my younger siblings and cousins will feel my presence here if they attend school here.

Our school is full of friendly ghosts, and we are the future ghosts.
